What We Do

At Breakthrough Miami, All Write facilitate weekly writing workshops for middle school students as part of the Saturday programming. Each session was built around a central theme—such as identity, resilience, or community—and begins with a short group discussion, followed by guided journaling prompts. Students have the option to share their writing aloud, helping to build trust, empathy, and a sense of connection within the group.

In parallel, we train a cohort of high school volunteers to serve as workshop leaders and peer mentors. These volunteers receive instruction on how to facilitate journaling sessions, encourage open expression, and foster emotionally safe, inclusive environments. They play a critical role in creating the tone of each workshop and helping students feel supported and respected.

Our work with Breakthrough Miami has helped shape All Write’s model for student-led, writing-based programming—where young people are not only the participants but also the facilitators of creative, healing-centered spaces.

Breakthrough Miami is a tuition-free, academic enrichment program that supports highly motivated students from under-resourced communities on a path to college and lifelong success. Through year-round programming—including a summer institute and Saturday sessions—Breakthrough provides students, known as Scholars, with rigorous academic support, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities in a safe, inspiring environment. The program’s “students teaching students” model also empowers older students to take on leadership roles as mentors and educators.
